Paula Griffin Joins MET as Conservation Project Manager
Muriwai Environmental Trust is delighted to announce the appointment of Paula Griffin as its new Conservation Project Manager. With extensive hands-on experience in kiwi conservation, predator control, and community engagement, Paula is set to play a key role in helping build a thriving native bird population in the Muriwai region.
Paula represented New Zealand at the highest level in netball, debuting for the Silver Ferns in 2007. She competed in multiple international series, including winning gold at the 2009 World Netball Series. Her sporting career was marked by discipline, teamwork, and a fierce commitment to excellence—qualities she now brings to conservation.
Driven by a deepening connection to nature, Paula became an accredited kiwi handler and has worked with organisations such as The Forest Bridge Trust and Kaipara Kiwi. She’s led predator control initiatives, monitored kiwi populations, and supported volunteer engagement across community-led conservation projects.
Paula brings the expertise, enthusiasm, and connection to the community that aligns perfectly with our vision of returning kiwi to Muriwai’s forests. We’re thrilled to have her lead this important kaupapa.
