Ready, Set, Info!

  • Half-Marathon

This unique course takes you on a thrilling 21.1 km journey along Muriwai’s rugged west coast, combining a stunning mix of trail and forestry roads.

Expect rolling terrain, forest canopies, and wide coastal views. From firm forestry roads to flowing single-track trails, this course offers something for everyone — enough technical sections to satisfy experienced trail runners, but still welcoming and achievable for those new to the sport.

Whether you’re chasing a PB or just out to soak in the wild beauty, the Muriwai Wild West Coast Half delivers an unforgettable off-road adventure. Lace up and join us where the forest meets the sea!

    7 km Run/Walk

The ideal introduction to trail running.

The course begins along a coastal trail, offering sweeping ocean views and salty sea breezes. For the first 2.5 km, runners follow a gently undulating path that hugs the shoreline, with wide-open views of the surf below, seabirds overhead, and the rhythmic crash of waves to keep you moving.

At the 2.5 km mark, the trail dips into  forest trails with  a mix of well-formed single track, some gentle climbs, and flowing descents—just enough variety to keep things interesting without being overwhelming.

At around 4.5 km, the trees part for the final section of forestry road before the final sprint along open trails to the finish line.

Whether you're stepping off the road and onto the trails for the first time or simply looking for a scenic, low-pressure adventure, this course is the perfect choice for beginner trail runners—manageable, memorable, and absolutely beautiful from start to finish.

    2.5 km Run/Walk

This short course features a mix of coastal pathways with sweeping ocean views and wide open trails. With only light elevation, it’s ideal for first-time trail runners, families, and kids. Soak up the sea air, enjoy the sound of the surf, and experience the natural beauty Muriwai has to offer—all in a quick and rewarding loop.

Why

We’re working toward a bold vision: returning kiwi to the forests of Muriwai.

Our iconic national bird is conservation dependent—without protection from introduced predators like stoats and ferrets, 94% of wild-hatched kiwi will not survive.

Your steps make a difference. Every stride helps raise vital funds to support bringing kiwi home. For more details on the Muriwai kiwi project click here.

The Muriwai Environmental Trust (MET) was established in 2011 with a simple but powerful goal: to care for, protect, and enhance the natural environment of Muriwai and Waimauku. We’re a registered charitable trust (CC47215), grounded in local action and community connection.

Over the past decade, MET has fostered a highly engaged local community while becoming a trusted partner to mana whenua, Auckland Council, and the Department of Conservation. Our work spans across animal and plant pest control, regenerative planting, and community education — all with the aim of protecting and restoring our unique landscape.
