  • We are here to make this an epic day for everyone involved, and every participant can help make sure it is safe and enjoyable. Here is what you need to know:

    • Aid Stations: Located around the course and stocked with electrolyte drinks, water (served in compostable cups), and mixed lollies to keep your sugar levels up.

    • First Aid: Our friendly local first aiders will be stationed around the course if you need a hand.

    • Help Out: Out on the trail, if you see someone take a spill, stop and make sure they are okay. If they cannot keep moving, send someone back for the nearest Marshal/aid station or wait for the sweep. We’ll take it from there (Those helpful people will have their time adjusted).

    • Weather: We can't control the elements, so please dress for the conditions on the day. Bring sunblock, warm layers, and make sure you have a solid hydration plan.

    • Course Conditions: This isn’t a road race! Expect sand, tree roots, branches, slippery spots, and whatever else Mother Nature throws at us. Dress and plan your gear for the rugged Wild West Coast. There is no compulsory gear but we do recommend trail shoes.

    • Marshals - All marshal instructions must be obeyed without question. This is a safety issue. Participants ignore marshal instruction at their own risk.

  • GOOD VIBES

We have a zero-tolerance policy for bad attitudes, trail rage, or littering.

Our volunteers are working for free, our sponsors are being incredibly generous, and we’re all here to save the kiwi. If you feel a grump coming on, grab a coffee, look at the ocean, and remember that life is good.

Cross the line and you will be disqualified on the spot. Even worse? We will sentence you to two hours of weeding gorse in the swamp with our volunteer crew. (Trust us, you'd rather be running).

Play nice, smile, and let's have an epic day!

    PRIVATE PROPERTY

Think about it: would you want random runners sprinting through your backyard?

We are incredibly privileged to run on this beautiful land. This event would not be possible without the blessing, guidance, and support of Ngā Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara.

We ask all participants to join us in showing the utmost respect for this land, its history, and the people who care for it.

Our event courses cross private property segments that are strictly accessible on event day only. Please respect our neighbors so we can keep enjoying these beautiful trails for years to come.

For more information on where to train please refer here

Any runners caught training on these private property sections prior to the event will be instantly disqualified from the race.

    REFUNDS

We have a strict no-refunds policy.

Why? Because we are a small crew of passionate local volunteers. Between organising this event and building a safe haven for our kiwi, our spare time is practically non-existent!
If you can’t make it on the day, look at the bright side: you can still sleep in knowing you’ve officially made a guilt-free donation to a brilliant cause.

An insurance option is available at the time of purchase.

    DOGS

    • On the trails: No dogs are permitted on the running tracks. Registered service dogs are the only exception—if you're running with one, please get in touch with us before the event.

    • At the event base: Well-behaved dogs on leads are extremely welcome at the finish line! Just remember the event base will be very busy with lots of kids, so please keep them close and under your supervision.

In 2025 we launched the inaugural Muriwai Half Marathon & Fun Run. What we imagined as a community fundraiser turned into something much bigger; a sold-out event, hundreds on the waitlist, and a day that brought people together around a vision worth running for: returning kiwi to Muriwai.

the merch.

the goal.

This event is brought to you by local volunteers with a shared passion: to showcase our vibrant community, celebrate the diversity of our wild ecosystems, and raise vital funds to protect them.

Our headline target is to return kiwi to the Muriwai area. Within the next few years—and with your support—we have a very real chance of establishing the closest mainland kiwi population to Auckland. This would be a precious taonga for everyone to experience and protect.

By signing up for the run, you are doing your part to bring this dream to life.
